Background
Jeff Ulbrich was named Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator on Jan. 18, 2025. He came to Atlanta after four seasons (2021-24) with the New York Jets, where he served as defensive coordinator and, late in 2024, interim head coach. Calling the Jets defense from 2022-24, his unit was the only defense in the league to rank top-five in total defense in each of those three seasons, and it ranked No. 1 in total and passing defense over that combined span. He developed All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner and Pro Bowlers Quincy Williams, Jermaine Johnson and Quinnen Williams. Ulbrich previously spent six seasons with the Falcons (2015-20) as linebackers coach and later assistant head coach and interim defensive coordinator under Raheem Morris. He also coached at UCLA (2012-14) and began his NFL coaching career with Seattle (2010-11). A San Jose native, he played 10 seasons at linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers after being a third-round pick out of Hawaii in 2000.
Scheme & Fantasy Angle
Ulbrich runs an adaptable, top-ranked defense that elevated cornerback and linebacker production in New York — relevant for IDP leagues and for the offensive game scripts a stingy unit creates.
