Valdes-Scantling has extensive history with both QB Aaron Rodgers and HC Mike McCarthy from their years together in Green Bay (2018–2021), giving him an immediate chemistry advantage. Coach McCarthy praised his ability to "catch on fast" and noted that Rodgers "was excited to get him back," citing their prior rapport. Valdes-Scantling's 3,708 career yards and 21 TDs across stints with Green Bay, Kansas City Chiefs (2022–2023), Buffalo Bills (2024), New Orleans Saints (2024), Los Angeles Chargers (2026, three games with 2 rec/22 yards), and San Francisco 49ers (2025) showcase his journeyman experience. Most recently with the Chargers in 2026 before signing with Pittsburgh. McCarthy emphasized that "he's played in some great systems" and possesses a "great connection with Aaron," making him a potential productive fill-in if elevated to the active roster amid injuries to Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Wilson.
