Background
The Minnesota Vikings named Josh McCown as quarterbacks coach on Feb. 27, 2024. McCown, who played 18 seasons in the NFL as a quarterback from 2002-20, spent the 2023 season with the Carolina Panthers as quarterbacks coach. In his first season with the Vikings in 2024, McCown worked with QB Sam Darnold, who set new career highs in nearly every passing category, finishing fifth in the NFL in passing yards (4,319), fifth in touchdown passes (35) and sixth in passer rating (102.5).
Scheme & Fantasy Angle
As passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, McCown oversees the development of Minnesota's QBs within O'Connell's pass-first system; his guidance helped Darnold post a career year in 2024, underscoring the fantasy upside available to the Vikings' starting quarterback.
