The Cowboys waived Joe Milton III and named Sam Howell as the backup QB behind Dak Prescott (from the Sam Howell page).
It was a tight competition all summer — Milton actually lit it up in preseason Week 2 (9-of-13, 179 yards, 2 TDs, 151.4 rating), but Howell's 18 career starts with Washington gave him the edge as the safer emergency option. He signed a one-year, $2.5M deal and will be QB2 heading into the season.
