DET Christian Mahogany
NFL offensive guard. Position: OG. Team: Detroit Lions.
Quick Facts
- Position: OG (Left Guard)
- Team: Detroit Lions
- Draft: 6th round, 2024
2026 Outlook
Mahogany is positioned as the favorite to start at left guard for Detroit in 2026, but his hold on the position is not guaranteed. After missing six games in 2025 with a fibula fracture, Mahogany showed promise but also struggled at times before the injury. He's now fully healthy entering training camp but faces real competition for the starting spot. Free agent signing Ben Bartch (recovering from a Lisfranc injury after his time with Jacksonville) and Juice Scruggs (acquired in the David Montgomery trade from Indianapolis) will compete for snaps during camp. Both newcomers bring starting experience, and the Lions' coaching staff indicated the left guard position is genuinely open despite Mahogany's incumbent status. If Mahogany wins the competition and stays healthy, he'll anchor the Lions' line alongside center Frank Ragnow; if he loses the battle, he could end up as a rotational backup. Starting Left Guard for the Lions heading into 2026 season.
Injury Status
Week 1 injury (Sept 16): Left guard Christian Mahogany exited Detroit's Week 1 win after only 11 snaps with an injury. HC Dan Campbell said Mahogany isn't yet "out of the woods," suggesting his availability for Week 2 remains uncertain. The early indication is that it won't be a lengthy absence, but his status bears monitoring. (per Three big-name free agents who could be signed after Week 1 injuries)
Fully recovered from 2025 fibula fracture; no lingering concerns from that injury.
