Eric Bieniemy
Kansas City Chiefs Offensive Coordinator.
Quick Facts
- Role: Offensive Coordinator
- Team: Kansas City Chiefs (KC)
- Current holder: Eric Bieniemy (returning to Kansas City after stints in Washington and as Bears RBs coach)
- Coaching tree: Reid / West Coast (Andy Reid branch); see Coaching Trees
Background
Was Kansas City's OC from 2018-2022, the four-year peak of the Mahomes/Reid offense (three Super Bowl trips, two wins). Left for Washington as OC in 2023, then went to Chicago as running backs coach in 2025. Rehired by Andy Reid to replace Matt Nagy (who went to Giants).
July 27 Family Matter
On July 27, his wife Mia Bieniemy was shot multiple times at their home in Ashburn, Virginia. His son Elijah Zion Bieniemy (age 27) was arrested and charged with malicious wounding, use of firearm in commission of felony, and discharge of firearm inside dwelling. Mia was transported to hospital and reported in stable condition. Eric was with the Chiefs at practice in St. Joseph, Missouri when the incident occurred. The Chiefs issued a statement: "The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy's family. Out of respect for their privacy, we won't have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them." (per Chiefs assistant Eric Bieniemy's son charged in shooting of his mother in Virginia, authorities say - NFL.com)
Scheme and Tendencies
West Coast/Reid-style passing concepts with heavy pre-snap motion and condensed formations. Familiarity with Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs' veteran core should make for a quick transition. Noted for demanding attention to detail and precise alignment — even while coaching remotely during recovery from his wife's July 27 injury, Bieniemy was monitoring practice feeds and calling in corrections to Reid about player assignments, signaling his continued focus on fundamentals despite the family crisis (per Bieniemy remote coaching drives Chiefs attention to detail).
