Patrick Mahomes is on track for training camp — and Andy Reid is being cautiously optimistic.
Mahomes tore his ACL and LCL in Week 15 of the 2025 season (surgery in December). By late May, he was already participating in 7-on-7 drills wearing a knee brace. Per Jeremy Fowler, he's been in Kansas City doing 6-7 hours of daily rehab and has progressed to the "cutting phase" — change-of-direction work that tests knee stability. As of the June 28 update, Reid said Mahomes is trending toward full clearance by training camp (late July) and likely to get reps in at least one preseason game. The one caveat: Reid is being careful about 11-on-11 team drills where a crossing player or jet sweep could accidentally clip Mahomes' legs. Once fully cleared though, Reid said "there's no putting the genie back in the bottle." (from the Patrick Mahomes II page)
On Flock Fantasy, they noted Mahomes is already "running around at camp" — a little surprising for someone who had surgery just over seven months ago. Sal Vetri also reported he's been expected to participate in OTAs and is on track to avoid the PUP list for Week 1.
Bottom line: All signs point to Mahomes being ready for the Week 1 matchup vs. the Broncos (Sept 14). Reid hasn't committed publicly, but the team and player are aligned on that timeline.
