Darryl Tapp enters his third season in Washington and first season as the team's Assistant Defensive Line Coach. In 2025, Tapp helped Washington finish the season ranked 12th in total sacks with 42.0, working with defensive ends Dorance Armstrong and Jacob Martin and second-year defensive tackle Jer'Zhan Newton. Tapp joined the Commanders after serving as an assistant defensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers from 2020-23, where he helped develop a front featuring Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave and Arik Armstead. As a player, Tapp was a second-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2006 and appeared in 165 games over an NFL career that included stops in Seattle, Philadelphia, Washington, Detroit, New Orleans and Tampa Bay. He was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
